Mechanical Project Manager – Security-Sensitive Site Location: Berkshire, Newbury Area Salary: £75,000 – £85,000 (DOE)

Core Group is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead complex, high-security engineering projects in the Berkshire / Newbury area.
Key Roles & Responsibilities 1. Project Planning & Management Lead and manage end-to-end mechanical engineering projects on a secure site. Develop detailed project plans covering schedules, budgets, and resources. Coordinate with electrical, civil, and structural teams. Ensure all mechanical designs and installations meet project, client, and regulatory requirements. NEC4 contract knowledge preferred but not essential.
2. Security Compliance (BPSS-Specific) Must hold or be eligible to obtain BPSS clearance — mandatory before site access. Ensure subcontractors and personnel comply with BPSS and site security protocols. Maintain strict confidentiality, data protection, and access control standards. Manage secure documentation and communications in line with project protocols. Support security audits and investigations as required.
3. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Promote a strong HSE culture in line with high-security site standards. Implement and monitor RAMS, ensuring compliance with CDM and other safety regulations. Oversee all mechanical safety systems and procedures.
4. Technical Oversight Provide expert guidance on mechanical design and engineering accuracy. Review and approve technical drawings, specifications, and calculations. Supervise installation, commissioning, and testing of systems (HVAC, piping, fire protection). Ensure all works comply with BS, ISO, and site technical requirements.
5. Quality Assurance Implement robust quality control and assurance procedures. Manage snagging, de-snagging, and handover to ensure client satisfaction. Maintain documentation in line with project quality plans.
6. Stakeholder Coordination Act as the main interface between clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams. Deliver concise project updates at coordination and progress meetings. Maintain professional communication with all security-cleared stakeholders.
7. Cost & Change Control Monitor and manage project budgets to meet financial targets. Identify and manage scope changes (variations, EWNs, CEs) with full documentation. Collaborate with commercial and procurement teams on contract administration and claims.
8. Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate records of all works, inspections, and approvals. Prepare progress, cost, risk, and quality reports for senior management and clients. Ensure all documentation follows secure data handling standards.
Candidate Requirements Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Manager in complex, regulated, or high-security environments.
BPSS clearance (mandatory).
Strong understanding of security-sensitive sectors (MOD, nuclear, or data centres).
Demonstrable skills in project planning, stakeholder coordination, and cost control.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational ability.
Proficiency with MS Project, Primavera, and BIM tools .
