About the Position:
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Communications Technician Supervisor in our Communications Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:
• Maximizes performance and morale through effective leadership; supervises assigned staff by establishing priorities; evaluating performance; assessing developmental needs; correcting substandard performance and discipline issues as they occur; communicates clearly and concisely with staff and encourages staff to maintain open communications; effectively identifies and resolves personnel conflicts; communicates safety issues with employees to ensure a safe workplace; and continuity of operations is maintained through cross-training and development of current desk procedures.
• Supervises the maintenance and repair activities of assigned subordinate technical staff.
• Oversees the installation; inspection; maintenance and repair of electronic equipment; and speed detection components and devices.
• Supervises the maintenance of serviceable equipment stock, and coordinates the acquisition of inventory for parts and equipment.
• Ensures that proper inventory controls are in place for tracking the receipt and issuance of parts and equipment for the assigned radio shop.
• Documents maintenance and repair activities; and prepares reports, and records for files.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge:
• Of advanced electronics and digital theory.
• Of supervisory principles and practices with a technical staff.
Skills:
• In operating computers and using Microsoft Office applications to include Word and Excel.
Ability:
• To maintain files and prepare reports and documentation.
• To supervise a large number of electronic technicians.
• To manage and oversee technical projects.
• To operate various public safety equipment, speed detection devices (Radar/Lidar), mobile radios, portable radios, in-car and body worn cameras, and emergency light control systems.
• To install, repair, and maintain equipment and/or software related to the equipment.
• To interpret electronic schematic drawings.
• To prepare and maintain entries into service records and asset management databases.
• To communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License required.
• FCC General Radiotelephone Operators License or recognized equivalent required.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Additional Considerations
• Formal military or civilian trade school preferred.
