Caretaker – Full-Time & Weekend Shift Options Available
Salary: £26,000 – £27,500 per annum (FTE)Location: Cold Ash, near Thatcham
An established independent boarding and day school is seeking an experienced and reliable Caretaker to join its friendly and dedicated Estates Team. This role plays a vital part in maintaining a safe, secure, and attractive environment for all pupils, staff, and visitors.
We offer a variety of shift patterns to suit different lifestyles:
Shift Pattern Options
Option 1 – Monday to Friday• 1:30pm – 9:00pm
Option 2 – Rotating 35-hour week• Week 1: 1:30pm – 9:00pm• Week 2: 10:30am – 6:00pm
Option 3 – Weekend Only• 8:00am – 4:30pm• Includes residential and up to 25 days holiday cover per year
Option 4 – Weekend Only (48 hours)• 8:00am Saturday – 8:00am Monday• No holiday cover
Some relief cover (up to 25 days annually) will require you to work the Residential Caretaker shift pattern, including on-call overnight duties. Onsite accommodation will be provided for these shifts.
About the Role
This is a varied and hands-on position, ideal for someone proactive, trustworthy, and confident in general maintenance tasks. Experience in a school or hotel setting is desirable, and a current driving licence is essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake minor maintenance tasks as directed or reported through the internal system
* Provide out-of-hours site security
* Complete daily lock-up duties, including securing buildings, conducting perimeter checks, and completing security inspections
* Liaise with boarding house staff regarding maintenance issues
* Support with event set-up when required
* Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times
