Pay: £13.74 per hour
Main Duties / Responsibilities
* To act as attendant and chauffeur to the Mayor or Deputy Mayor for Mayoral events demonstrating confidence and dignity in the fulfilment of civic duties.
* To assist in organising and managing civic events, including greeting guests, explaining protocol and arranging participants into correct processional order when required.
* To be responsible for the security of the mayoral chains and insignia at events
* To assist in ‘chaining’ and robing the Mayor and attending to the Mayor for events, including Mayor’s Parlour visits.
* On major civic occasion, assist councillors and guests in a church or formal setting, working as part of the Civic team.
* To make announcements at formal engagements where required.
* To ensure the mayoral vehicle is roadworthy and clean at all times, including reporting of faults, ensuring it is suitably charged / fuelled, taxed, insured and respond to service requests.
* To ensure the presentation and maintenance of the Mayor’s Parlour to high standard, including the regalia, Silver, art and collectables.
* To have responsibility for basic catering including the serving of refreshments in the Mayor’s Parlour and the Town Hall function rooms.
* To provide administrative support where necessary
* To carry the ceremonial mace in procession ahead of the Mayor for lengthy periods of time as required.
* To be flexible in their approach to hours of work including the working at evening and weekends.
* To display confidence and tact. Wearing the correct uniform as appropriate for the function or event.
Qualifications
* (E) Good standard of education
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
* (E) Excellent communication skills with the ability to deal with both confidence and sensitivity with a very wide range of people including Civic Heads, Elected Members and Senior officers
* (E) Must have a commanding presence to manage Civic guests into a processional order and make announcements at formal engagements.
* (E) Must be confident and have an assured approach to the tasks of the post
* (E) Flexible approach to hours of work and be a good timekeeper
* (E) Ability to undertake vehicle checks to ensure the civic car is kept in a clean and roadworthy condition at all times
* (E) Ability to acquire and retain formal civic protocol
* (E) To act with diplomacy, tact and discretion at all times as a representative of the city council.
Experience
* (D) Experience in a role requiring similar and transferable skills.
Special Requirements
* (E) Must hold a valid current driving licence, a safe and confident driver.
* (E) Must be of smart appearance and wear the uniform provided
* (E) Be available to work evenings and weekends
* (E) Must be able to carry and hold the historic Civic Mace ahead of the Mayor for civic processions and events for considerable periods of time.
