Overview
We are a fast-paced creative studio specialising in immersive content for live events. We are looking for a hybrid leader: someone with a strong background in high-end 3D and motion design who has evolved into a strategic lead.
You will manage the content team, own the costing and scoping of projects, and define the technical workflow. However, you are not afraid to get your hands dirty. While you are not required to be a daily operator, you have the capability to jump into the tools to set the visual standard, execute complex sequences, or problem-solve during crunch time if you choose to or if the project demands it.
You don't need to know everything, but you need to know enough to manage the process and identify when to bring in specialist freelancers to bridge technical gaps.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Strategy & Costing (The Management Side)
Accurate Scoping: You are the bridge between the Creative Brief and the Budget. You will break down concepts into actionable tasks, estimating hours and costs with high accuracy.
Freelance Network Management: You don't need to be the expert in every piece of software, but you must identify when a project requires specialist help and manage those external resources effectively.
Client Confidence: Act as the primary technical voice in client meetings. You translate abstract feedback into technical requirements and clearly explain why certain ideas fit or don’t fit within budget or timeline.
2. Creative & Hands-On Execution (The Artist Side)
Lead from the Front: While you won't be required to do daily groundwork, you are capable of executing high-level style frames, setting up master project files, and editing keyframe animation when required.
Visual Quality Control: You are the final set of eyes. You ensure that what leaves the studio is visually stunning and technically flawless before it hits the media server.
Emergency Support: In a fast-paced live event environment, you act as the safety net. When deadlines tighten, you are willing and able to jump on the tools to help the team cross the finish line.
3. Pipeline & Technical Direction (The Supervisor Side)
Workflow Architecture: Define the most efficient path from concept to screen, whether through offline rendering or real-time workflows.
Immersive Specs: Take ownership of complex technical setups, ensuring correct UV maps, resolutions, and perspective-correct camera setups for projection mapping and immersive displays.
Real-Time & AI Implementation: Real-time rendering is a core requirement. You will optimise these workflows and integrate AI tools into the pipeline to speed up iteration and expand creative capability.
Required Experience
Experience: 5+ years in 3D Motion Design or Immersive, with recent experience leading teams or projects.
The Hybrid Mindset: You enjoy the logic of budgeting and scoping as much as the creativity of the viewport. You are organised, financially minded, and artistically driven.
Live Event Pedigree: You understand the pressures of live events, fixed deadlines, and the expectation of flawless playback.
Flexible Availability (Crucial): This is not a standard 9–5 role. Live events require evening and weekend work when projects demand it.
Technical Proficiency (The Toolkit)
We expect strong working knowledge of core 3D workflows and supervisory knowledge of real-time tools, with the ability to learn or hire for specialist gaps.
Core 3D & Compositing: Very strong working knowledge of industry-standard 3D tools and After Effects. You can open any project file and quickly understand how it was built.
Rendering Strategy: Deep understanding of rendering engines and optimisation techniques that dramatically reduce render times without compromising quality.
Real-Time Literacy: Strong working knowledge of Unreal Engine or Notch. You understand capabilities, limitations, and optimisation requirements even if you are not writing custom code.
Projection Logic: Strong understanding of UV unwrapping, texture baking, and camera setup for anamorphic and forced-perspective content.
AI Integration: Familiarity with AI tools and workflows, with a genuine interest in using them to improve production efficiency.
