Are you an experienced Critical Care Nurse? Are you looking to develop your expertise in leadership in a progressive, dynamic and friendly Critical Care Unit?

The General Adult Critical Care Unit at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston currently has full time substantive Band 6 posts vacancies due to our critical care expansion and multiple fixed term contracts available. There is no better time to join Critical Care at UHBW!

You will join our team in our General Intensive Care/ High Dependency Unit who care for patients from diverse specialties across the region. our work incorporates emergencies, planned elective care and long-term rehabilitation for critically dependent patients.

UHBW is a tertiary referral centre for Thoracic, ENT, GI surgery, Oncology, Cardiac and the Bristol ECMO service for the South West in conjunction with North Bristol Trust.

We are a large, diverse team, who pride ourselves on our positive, welcoming attitude and valuing the contribution of all our staff and we currently require Band 6 nurses to join our team here.

The unit also has a team of Critical Care Practice Educators in place to support development and education of all staff. We are a highly motivated multidisciplinary team committed to giving excellent patient care.


Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Nurse you would be responsible for supporting the overall daily management of the Critical Care Unit, co-ordinating and leading clinical shifts, providing direct patient care. You will also lead and participate with projects to enable us to give the excellent care we currently provide. The Band 6 role includes rotation onto nights and weekends.

Knowledge and Experience

* Proven experience of teaching and mentoring
* Proven leadership and management experience. Act as professional role model
* Current ICU experience
* Surgical post registration experience
* Demonstrate recent experience of managing change
* Ability to demonstrate clinical expertise and sound knowledge of clinical issues


Skills and Abilities

* Evidence of organisation:- - prioritisation - communication skills including interaction with the multidisciplinary team
* Expert at planning, delivering and evaluating all aspects of patient care
* Awareness of professional responsibilities to self and others
* Innovative and participates with practice and policy change
* Ability to undertake day to day and ongoing management in the absence of Sister/Charge Nurse i.e. demonstrating budget control awareness, managing complaints, staff issues etc
* Ability to support the Sister / Charge Nurse with strategic planning
* Ability to rapidly respond to changes within the clinical environment
* Knowledge/experience of audit and research
