Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate, skilled and proactive Special Education Assistant to support learners with additional needs across our three campuses in Gloucester, Cheltenham, and the Forest of Dean. About the Role
As a Special Education Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring learners with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) are fully supported throughout their college experience. You will work alongside teaching staff, support specialists, and external agencies to create an inclusive learning environment that enables students to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring to learners with a wide range of additional needs
Support students in developing independence, confidence, and effective study skills
Implement personalised support strategies and contribute to student support plans
Encourage positive behaviour, emotional resilience, and engagement in learning
Work collaboratively with lecturers and support teams to remove barriers to learning
Assist with in-class support where needed, adapting materials and approaches
Maintain accurate records of support, progress, and interventions
Communicate regularly with parents, carers, and external professionals when appropriate
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
Passionate about supporting young people with SEND
Patient, empathetic, and able to build positive relationships
Skilled at communicating with learners of varying abilities
Confident in adapting support to suit individual needs
Organised, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
Experienced in SEND support (desired but not essential—training provided)
Relevant qualifications in education, learning support, youth work, or health and social care are advantageous but not required for applicants with strong practical experience

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
