SNBTS Blood Transfusion pre-registration supernumerary clinical scientist training intake 2025, based in Patient Services.
The Post:
The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS), a division of National Services Scotland, is the specialist provider of transfusion medicine in Scotland supplying high quality blood, tissues, products and services.
The Candidate:
Applications are invited from candidates with a First or 2:1 BSc (Hons) degree encompassing elements of science relevant for haematology and blood transfusion for entry to the training scheme leading to registration as Clinical Scientist in Blood Transfusion.
Candidates with a 2:2 are accepted but must also possess an MSc or other higher degree in a related discipline.
Trainees will have a contract of employment for up to 3 years, starting in November 2025, with the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, a division of National Services Scotland.
The contract will end once the patient acquires HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist over a duration of up to 3 years. The core training will be undertaken within the five Patient Services RCI laboratories in Scotland, allowing trainees to build a portfolio for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Location and Working Pattern:
SNBTS Patient Services laboratories. The SNBTS laboratories for blood banking and reference testing are located across 5 different geographical areas, Raigmore Hospital (Inverness), Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (Aberdeen), Ninewells Hospital (Dundee), Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (Edinburgh) and Glasgow Gartnavel Hospital Campus, (Glasgow). The primary red cell reference laboratory is located at the Gartnavel site. Training will take place across all 5 sites with the base location negotiated with the successful candidate on appointment.
Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
