Main Purpose

To manage the day-to-day function of the technical department, ensuring products are manufactured to food safety standards, in a food safe environment that complies with the relevant legislation, standards and customer expectations. To be customer facing and being a point of contact for key accounts to help manage the technical demands from our customers and contribute to the growth of the business.

To manage the day-to-day function of the technical department, ensuring products are manufactured to food safety standards, in a food safe environment that complies with the relevant legislation, standards and customer expectations. To be customer facing and being a point of contact for key accounts to help manage the technical demands from our customers and contribute to the growth of the business.

Team Development - ensure the technical team is coached and developed to have the range of right skills and experience to meet the needs of the business this may require departmental re-structuring to meet requirements of the business.


* Develop an annual training plan for the Specification Technologist, Technical Co-ordinator, and Quality auditor.
* Complete regular 1-2-1s with smart objectives to be set to develop team members individually as well as collectively.
* Annual appraisals to be carried out with Direct reports.
* Agree development plans for each member of the team with a view on creating succession plans within the team.


Management of Non-Conformances & Customer Complaints - ensure finished product quality and safety are maintained and out of specification product is not released to the customer.

* To manage stock effectively and safely under QC investigation ensuring that raw material and finished product non-conformances are investigated promptly.
* To run monthly technical & operations meetings to discuss internal non-conformances and corrective actions.
* To effectively manage rework, short shelf life and out of date stock keeping the stock proactively with supply chain and production.
* To deliver a reduction in internal non-conformances year on year to be agreed with UK Site Director.
* To deliver a reduction in customer complaints year on year to be agreed with UK Site Director.
* Assisting the Quality Manager to respond to any non-conformance raised within the agreed timescale.


Integrated Pest Management System - maintain and review an integrated pest management system to ensure that the business can demonstrate its compliance.

* Manage pest control contractors ensuring effective implementation and management of integrated pest management system.
* To ensure that site implements effective corrective actions promptly which will be raised and discussed in the monthly technical and operations meetings.
* To ensure that site complies with customer and BRC requirements for pest management


Management of Customers - managing key accounts through the relevant technical contacts to cover audits queries and new specifications as well as being a key driver for new business onboarding.

* To communicate effectively with customer and accreditation bodies while arranging audits, ensuring that the audit agenda is shared with technical and operations teams.
* To manage QA and QC audit preparations (system) and support the Operations Team is site preparations.
* To successfully manage through the team auditor expectations during the audit, ensuring that required data is available for inspections preparation in this area being key.
* Ensuring customer queries are responded to in a timely fashion.
* Being the first point of contact for key customers.
* Facilitating in the onboarding of new business to assist in the growth of the business.


QMS System - maintain and review QMS system to ensure that the department operates efficiently, and the business can demonstrate its compliance.

* To contribute to annual food safety policies, procedures and SOP’s review ensuring compliance with customer and BRC standards. To ensure that any changes are effectively communicated to relevant departments, annual re-training is completed within the agreed timescale.
* To participate in annual HACCP and food safety risk assessment reviews and meetings.
* To ensure customer questionnaires and specifications are completed within the agreed timescale and as per Company procedures. To trend the number of completed documents per each month.
* To ensure that the food safety training matrix is managed to the required standard, and any re-training highlighted for the technical team is completed in a timely manner.
* To create a monthly technical report and share it with the technical and operations departments.
* To monitor and trend departments KPI’s monthly and discuss it with team during the monthly meeting.


Food Safety Culture - to create an environment where following technical policies, processes and procedures is easy and common place.

* To ensure that technical policies, processes, and procedures are clear, easy to access and follow.
* To drive the food safety culture and awareness by the presence in the production and storage areas. To look at the new ways we can improve standards and communicate better with operations and technical teams at all levels, ensuring that both teams work together to make any necessary changes to working practices and to celebrate where improvements are made, or standards are maintained.


Cost Control - to effectively manage set budget ensuring that the costs are not negatively impacting the Company budget as well as managing stock provisions and products for re-work.

* To ensure monthly technical spend are within the agreed budget
* To report to UK Site Director any unavoidable costs before they are taken
* To create continuous improvement plan and efficiency improvement mindset culture within the technical department and to support the technical department in investigations of possible EPD projects.
* To effectively manage rework, short shelf life and out of date stock keeping the stock proactively with the site quality manager / supply chain and production.


Your profile

* A degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field.
* Relevant industry certifications, such as:
* HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points)
* Food Safety Level 3 or 4
* 5+ years of experience in food manufacturing, quality assurance, or technical management.
* Proven track record of managing audits, supplier approvals, and food safety compliance.
* Knowledge of product development, food safety legislation, and quality control processes.
