Are you an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant with a passion for trauma-informed practice?
A supportive and inclusive mainstream primary school in Camden is seeking a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their specialist SEMH class. This provision supports pupils across EYFS to KS2, offering structured, nurturing interventions to help children regulate emotions, develop positive behaviours, and re-engage with learning.
You will work 1:1 or 1:2 with pupils, alongside the SEN Class Teacher and wider SEMH team, supporting children with complex social, emotional and mental health needs.
The Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant
1. Supporting pupils across the primary age range within the school’s specialist SEMH class
2. Working 1:1 or 1:2 with children with complex SEMH needs
3. Implementing trauma-informed approaches and behaviour support strategies
4. Supporting emotional regulation, communication and engagement in learning
5. Setting clear, consistent and positive boundaries
6. Managing challenging behaviour with empathy and professionalism
7. Working closely with the SEN Class Teacher and multidisciplinary team
8. Creating a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment
9. February start – long-term role through to July 2026, with potential to extend
What We’re Looking For - SEMH Teaching Assistant:
10. Experience supporting children with SEMH needs
11. Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and attachment
12. Calm, patient and resilient personality
13. Ability to manage challenging behaviour confidently and consistently
14. Excellent de-escalation and relationship-building skills
15. Experience working 1:1 or in small groups
16. Relevant qualifications or strong academic background
17. Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
