Engineering Manager - Enabling Works & Earthworks - Sizewell C - Suffolk Site based
Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable load low-carbon electricity. The Civil Works Alliance includes Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke. We are bringing together a single delivery organisation with years of learning and experience from major complex infrastructure programmes worldwide.
What you’ll be doing
The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires an Engineering Manager to lead, manage and coordinate construction engineering for the Enabling Works and Earthworks during the delivery phase. The role is site based to ensure Engineering Delivery Excellence through adoption of engineering processes, procedures and best practice. The scope includes construction of significant civil engineering elements critical to SZC, such as access bridges, sea defence, retaining structures, environmental barriers, TBM launch shafts and marine delivery structures. The Engineering Manager will manage right first-time delivery of engineering activities, coordinating across Methods, Temporary/Permanent Works, Digital Engineering, Quality, Materials and Survey. The role involves establishing the organisation and resource structure with the skills and experience to deliver the project technical requirements, working with technical leads, client and stakeholders to manage complex technical interfaces. You will collaborate with support functions including procurement, commercial, information management, digital engineering and project controls to ensure robust project management principles for efficient delivery. You will establish and manage a delivery strategy in accordance with industry, Civil Works alliance and Sizewell C procedures. The role is 42 hours per week.
Who we’re looking for
Essential
* Construction experience, including Temporary Works and HSQE.
* Construction experience on large infrastructure projects including earthworks and structures.
* Good understanding of earthworks (e.g., geology, materials, methods).
* Good understanding of detailed design drawings, technical specifications and quality management.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Project Management skills (e.g., planning, scope definition).
* Good Digital skills, including use of BIM.
* Good self-discipline and time management.
* Problem solving skills, creative thinking.
Desirable
* Marine structures.
* Deep foundations.
* Surveying on construction sites.
Qualifications & Experience
* Civil engineering degree or equivalent
* Experience of managing temporary works
* Experience of managing surface water and groundwater in earthworks
Desirable qualifications
* Chartered or working towards chartership
