DPAS is a market leader providing flexible and pragmatic data protection consultancy, training, and strategy services to public, private, and third sector organisations. Our company is headed by a team of highly qualified data protection consultants with decades of experience between them. Due to ongoing expansion, we are looking for an individual to join our team.
We are looking to recruit a flexible, self‑motivated, mature in outlook, team member who has previously worked in a similar role as a Information Governance Officer, Data Protection Manager, Data Protection Officer or Data Protection Consultant. If you have experience in working in a busy data protection/information governance team, then this would be a great opportunity to further your career. Equally, we are open to applicants with a strong desire to learn and transferable skills.
A qualification such as the BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection or equivalent would be advantageous, however, we welcome applicants without formal qualifications, but proven experience, and knowledge of the existing landscape is necessary.
Although this is an Exeter based position, we offer a hybrid environment as long as you can join us in the office for 3 days per week. We also offer flexible working options, however, this position forms part of our consultancy team who typically work 0830‑1700 Mon‑Fri.
Throughout your time working with DPAS you will be given multiple training opportunities, including formally recognised qualifications, alongside a detailed in‑house progression route. We will also support you in any additional training that you may wish to embark on, as long as it aligns with your role.

The Role
The role is primarily within our consultancy team; however, we are a small team so the role would be varied and support the organisation wherever necessary. The consultancy team are responsible for delivering compliance projects, outsourced data protection officer services, and more, to a variety of clients – including small, local SME’s, local authorities, NHS Trusts, and large multinational FTSE organisations.
The position will be integral to the delivery of a variety of consultancy services and has potential to develop into a broader role in time.
Salary from £26,000 - £32,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
Main tasks
You will be involved in supporting our clients, and the wider DPAS team in the delivery of a variety of services. You will get involved in our many data protection projects, from supporting the drafting of policies, to risk analysis, project management, auditing, Subject Access Request redaction, and general clerical duties.
You will be responsible for:
* Supporting the team with client management.
* Delivery of data protection projects.
* Advising and informing clients on their obligations under the UK GDPR, and associated data protection laws.
* Monitoring and ensuring compliance with UK GDPR and associated data protection laws.
* Assisting with, advising on, and responding to, individual rights requests.
* Participating in incident management and investigations.Drafting and advising on policies and procedures.
* Assessing compliance within our clients’ organisations and offering remedial support.
* Identifying and analysing data protection risks.
* Creation, and maintenance, of accountability documentation such as Data Protection Impact Assessments, Records of Processing Activities, breach logs, and individual rights logs.
You will have:
* Knowledge of and interest in, data privacy law and regulation.
* Must be a self‑starter and able to work autonomously.
* Organisation and prioritisation skills.
* Ability to manage a high volume of tasks to demanding timelines.
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
* Valid UK driving licence (due to our location public transport is difficult)
* Competence in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
It would be a bonus if you also had:
* Experience working in a data protection/information governance team.
* A relevant degree or formal qualifications.
* Experience of working in a process‑driven environment.
* Understanding of information security standards.
* Understanding of cyber security practices.
