What you'll do
Hybrid - working from home with occasional travel to our Northampton and Bridgwater officesAre you working towards becoming a Finance Business Partner and looking for that next step? Do you enjoy working with numbers and data, but also want to be closer to the action - influencing decisions, supporting teams, and making a real difference to business performance?
We’re looking for an Assistant Finance Business Partner to join our Commercial Finance team here at Toolstation, part of the Travis Perkins Group. You’ll work alongside our Category, Customer, and Marketing teams, helping them understand what’s really driving performance - and what we can do to improve it.
This is a great opportunity to build your commercial skills, work cross-functionally, and step into the world of business partnering, with the support of a friendly and experienced team around you.
This is a hands-on, varied role where you’ll get involved in all sorts of commercial finance activity.
You’ll:
1. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across Category, Customer and Marketing teams.
2. Help turn data into insight. Providing clear, consistent reporting and variance analysis that explains the ‘why’ behind the numbers.
3. Support business cases for new products, promotional activity and customer initiatives, including pre- and post-evaluation.
4. Support the annual budget and regular forecast processes for sales, margin and commercial overheads.
5. Attend and contribute to cross-functional meetings, supporting Finance Business Partners and stepping in when needed.
6. Help deliver regular pricing and margin reporting in partnership with Category teams.
7. Contribute to the monthly accounts process, from reporting to accruals and reconciliations.
8. Continuously look for ways to improve reporting processes and bring clarity to complex data.
This role gives you a real mix of finance, data, and stakeholder interaction, setting you up well for a full Finance Business Partner role in the future.

9. Are studying for a recognised accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
10. Have experience in a finance role (within a retail or FMCG environment is a bonus)
11. Are confident in Excel and data handling - able to build reports, spot trends, and explain them clearly
12. Have great attention to detail and high standards for accuracy
13. Are proactive and curious - always asking why and looking for better ways to do things
14. Are comfortable presenting information to others and contributing to conversations
15. Are collaborative and enjoy working in a team-focused environment
