Clinical Lead - Prison Mental Health Team - £3,000 Joining Bonus

The closing date is 17 March 2026

Have you ever thought about working within prison mental health services?

HMP Humber are looking for a Clinical Lead to provide mental health care to patients. This role will be responsible for assessment and caseload management of those referred into mental health services working as part of a stepped care model. You will complete comprehensive assessments, confidently communicate treatment options and initiate supportive care plans, and provide evidence‑based interventions alongside the wider multidisciplinary team.

You will work with internal and external partners, including partner healthcare providers, prison colleagues, social care providers, and probation services. As such, you will need excellent communication skills and a teamwork ethos.

The service operates 7 days a week: Monday‑Friday 08:00‑19:00, Saturday/Sunday 08:00‑16:00. Weekend work is part of this role with approximately one in four weekends expected to be covered. It is a 37.5‑hour per week role although part‑time or condensed hours will be considered.

Main duties of the job

You will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, or Occupational Therapist. You will have a flexible approach to working within a team that encourages new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service.

You will have experience providing compassionate mental health care and an understanding of the criminal justice system. You will make ongoing assessment of needs reflecting individual circumstances and provide relevant interventions and input to discharge planning. You will be required to have strong coordination and planning skills, with the ability to make decisions based on comprehensive health and risk assessments.

You should be innovative, flexible and able to engage with patients with complex needs. You will be committed to a person‑centred approach and have the ability to prioritise.

18 months post‑qualifying experience including sign‑off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework is essential.

Please note this post offers a £3,000 joining bonus alongside development opportunities for successful applicants. This incentive is paid as follows: £1,500 upon joining the Trust, £750 after year 1 and £750 after year 2.

As well as team operational and clinical support and leadership, you will have access to professional‑specific support including an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, a Nurse Consultant and an Associate Director of Nursing.
