Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Advanced Practice Team for a Band 6 Specialist Nurses. This is a permanent post. The IBD team has recently seen a significant expansion with the addition of a Consultant Nurse and a biologics coordinator.
We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills and a passion and commitment to provide high quality, evidence based care for this group of patients.
The team work across county, managing a busy Advice line service and a large cohort of patients on Biologics. They run Rapid Access and drug counselling clinics and provide support to the Gastroenterology ward and the Medical Day Unit.
You do not need to be an expert in IBD to apply for the post. Training, education and support will be provided; however, a keen interest in Gastroenterology/IBD would be advantageous.
Main duties of the job
To assess patients’ individual needs; planning, implementing, and evaluating care through the provision of direct clinical care that is evidence-based.
Manage an Adviceline offering support, advice and information
Manage a blood monitoring service for patients on immunosuppressants and biologics
Provide support for in-patients
Provide support and education to the Gastroenterology ward and Medical Day Unit

Most challenging part of the job
* To work autonomously with own caseload of patients and to work collaboratively as part of the IBD team
* To manage staff, patient, and public expectations of the service within national targets
* Ability to work under pressure in a challenging and ever changing environment including frequent interruptions from bleeps and telephone
* To be able to disseminate highly sensitive, distressing, or contentious information to patients and family members/carers and staff as appropriate
Person specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Adult) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
* Evidence of teaching and assessing and appropriate qualification
* Specialist Training or an equivalent level of knowledge
Experience
* Demonstrate understanding and implementation of research based practice
* Able to work autonomously or demonstrate their understanding of this
* Able to manage difficult situations effectively
* Experience within the field of Gastroenterology or demonstrate a keen interest
Knowledge/ Skills
* Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and planning skills
* Ability to impart complex information to patients, relatives and carers with different levels of understanding
* Evidence of Continued Professional Development
* Enhanced IT skills
