This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a business that has recently undergone a significant transformation, resulting in record market share growth and a commitment to continuous improvement. The organisation offers a supportive and knowledgeable environment, where your expertise will be valued and your professional development encouraged. With flexible working arrangements blending office and remote work, generous staff discounts, and a comprehensive benefits package, this role provides the perfect platform for you to further your career in credit control within the retail sector.
* Enjoy flexible working opportunities with a blend of office-based and remote work, supporting your work-life balance while remaining connected to your team.
* Benefit from a comprehensive rewards package including generous holiday entitlement, performance-related bonuses, staff discounts, pension contributions, and access to wellbeing support.
* Join a collaborative environment where your willingness to learn and develop will be supported through ongoing training and clear pathways for career progression.
What you'll do:
As a Credit Controller, you will play a vital role in maintaining the financial stability of this thriving retailer. Your day-to-day activities will involve managing cash collections against set targets, building strong relationships with both internal teams and external customers, and ensuring that all payments are allocated correctly. You will be instrumental in resolving account queries for stores, monitoring outstanding debts, and taking proactive steps to minimise risks associated with non-payment. In addition to handling current accounts, you will also address historical balances by investigating discrepancies and escalating issues when needed. Training will be provided for credit risk assessment tasks, allowing you to expand your skillset while contributing meaningfully to the team’s objectives. Your ability to collaborate effectively across departments will be key as you help drive improvements in processes that underpin the company’s ongoing success.
* Manage timely cash collection processes in line with agreed targets to ensure the financial health of the business is maintained at all times.
* Build positive relationships with customers, store teams, and commercial colleagues to facilitate smooth communication and effective resolution of queries.
* Ensure remittance advices are received promptly so that sales receipts can be allocated accurately and efficiently across accounts.
* Support stores by assisting with the resolution of account queries, demonstrating patience and excellent interpersonal skills throughout each interaction.
* Monitor outstanding debts closely and proactively chase payments to minimise the risk of non-collection or overdue balances.
* Resolve old balance or allocation queries effectively, escalating issues when necessary to ensure prompt resolution and minimal disruption.
* Undertake credit risk assessments as part of the wider credit control process, with full training provided to help you develop these skills further.
* Manage customer accounts through any legal action required, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant regulations at all times.
* Collaborate with internal teams to review and improve existing processes as part of the company’s commitment to continuous improvement.
* Maintain accurate records using Microsoft Office programmes, particularly Excel, ensuring all data is up-to-date and easily accessible for reporting purposes.
What you bring:
To excel as a Credit Controller in this organisation, you will bring proven experience from previous credit control positions—ideally gained within a fast-moving environment —where you have developed robust technical skills alongside strong interpersonal abilities. Your proficiency with Excel will enable you to manage complex data sets efficiently while your familiarity with other office software ensures seamless administration. You are comfortable adapting quickly when introduced to new systems or procedures, showing enthusiasm for personal development as well as process enhancement. Your organisational strengths mean you can handle multiple priorities without compromising on quality or accuracy. Above all else, your approachable manner allows you to build trust-based relationships both internally and externally—ensuring that every interaction reflects the company’s values of dependability, collaboration, and respect.
* At least two years’ experience in credit control roles, ideally within the retail sector but other industries considered if transferable skills are demonstrated.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel along with strong working knowledge of other Microsoft Office programmes such as Word and Outlook.
* Familiarity with EPOS systems is desirable but not essential; willingness to learn new systems is highly valued.
* Experience using Barclays Internet Banking system or Experian would be advantageous but not mandatory for consideration.
* Excellent organisational abilities enabling you to prioritise workload effectively even when under pressure or facing tight deadlines.
