There is an exciting opportunity to join the Acute Medicine team as the new Head of Department alongside the Consultant vacancy. This role is a 2 PA time commitment with a responsibility payment of £10K, appointed for a term of three years subject to satisfactory annual reviews. The service includes a modern Same Day Emergency Care department, a large Acute Medical Unit, and a Short Stay Unit located above the Emergency Department. The Consultant team leads daily reviews of the medical take, supports patient care, and ensures national and local targets are recognised and achieved.
Responsibilities
* Maintain the knowledge and skills essential for fulfilling the job plan.
* Ensure timely review of all medical patients attending the services.
* Facilitate rapid triage, assessment and discharge for ambulatory patients and coordinate clinic appointments if required.
* Carry out daily ward rounds and identify morning discharges to ensure safe discharge from the department.
* Perform administrative duties within the department.
* Provide high-quality care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff.
* Ensure adequate supervision of junior staff including break supervision and adherence to the European Working Time Directive.
* Undertake re-validation as per the General Medical Council and participate in multi-source feedback and reflective practice.
* Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
* Attend Clinical Governance and undertake leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement.
* Liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside the department to address service issues.
* Participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
* Manage the department to maintain efficient and timely patient flow with reference to local and national standards.
* Contribute to teaching of medical trainees and students within the department.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Current registration with the General Medical Council and eligibility for appropriate NHS appointments.
* Experience in acute medicine and leadership roles within a medical department preferred.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and participation in governance and improvement activities.
