Woodfields Fruit Ltd specialises in soft fruit production and we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Growing Assistant, who will join our dynamic team.
Woodfields Fruit Ltd produces over 500 tonnes of raspberries and blueberries that is harvested from April through to November supported by a workforce of over 220 seasonal workers. All of our fruit is packed on site in our packhouse and sent directly to supermarkets all over the UK.
As the Growing Assistant, you will report directly to the Production Manager, liaise with the wider management team (eg. Harvest Assistant, Growing Technician, Welfare and Irrigation Teams) and you will support all aspects of the raspberry and blueberry production (from growing to harvest).
Ther role will involve the following:
· Responsibility for performing husbandry and growing jobs (eg. tunnel construction and maintenance, support systems, assisting with new growing projects, …)
· Monitoring of the production jobs (growing, harvest)
· Management, training and performance monitoring of the supervising team and the seasonal staff
· Coordination of the day-to-day logistics of work teams
· Hosting training inductions for new employees
· Health and safety monitoring and reporting
· Maintaining accurate production records
· Step in to cover for Harvest Assistant when absent
The role is a permanent position. During winter the working hours are regular (Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week). During the busy harvest season, hours fluctuate, working long hours and weekend work will be required.
Key skills the ideal candidate should have:
· Experience with soft fruit growing or harvest is beneficial, however full training will be given
· Practically minded, hands-on approach
· Organisation and planning skills
· Experience with managing groups of people
· Innovative thinking and positive approach
· Passion/Desire to work in the Fresh Produce Industry
· Capability to work independently
· Willingness to learn
· Russian or Bulgarian language would be advantageous, however not required
