About this opportunity Joining us as an Engineering Lead, you'll be leading a team(s) of Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers and Quality Engineers with a focus on Route to Live solutions. Our primary aim is to support effective and efficient testing activities as we seek to innovate and improve environment provisioning and transition to new Cloud technologies. The purpose of the Engineering Lead is to support the Lab and the teams within their area to deliver against the strategy and their delivery commitments. Ideally the colleague will come from an Engineering background, and this position represents the conscious decision of an Engineer to progress down the management track of their engineering career. However, they will remain aligned to technical delivery, providing technical guidance to teams and making sure that they make the right technology choices, though the broader set of responsibilities will often (though not always) take them away from actual coding on a very regular basis. We'll continually challenge you to identify and try innovative approaches and technical solutions alongside existing solutions, identifying the best way to achieve desired outcomes. You'll inspire your team to embrace new technologies and new ways of working whilst driving their own development. What you'll do Coach and enable teams to improve processes -helping them solve problems and embed standards that raise quality and pace. Lead multi delivery of change -shaping roadmaps and coordinating plans, schedules and resourcing across teams. Provide leadership across internal feature teams -bringing clarity on shared engineering principles and encouraging collaboration in delivery. Mentor and develop engineers -creating an environment where people learn, advance and feel supported. Guide performance and feedback -facilitating regular, constructive reviews that help colleagues grow. Communicate with stakeholders -align engineering work with business outcomes and communicate decisions clearly. Track progress and manage risk -identifying issues early and agreeing practical mitigation with the team. Work with suppliers and consultants -ensuring service levels and value align with our supplier strategy. Contribute to financial planning -bringing visibility to spend and identifying opportunities to streamline. Provide line management for part of the engineering team. Contribute to workforce planning : supporting recruitment and partner engagement to shape a balanced team. Continuously improve how we engineer: evolving processes, standards and tools to boost quality and productivity. Enable cross functional collaboration: building strong connections between engineering and senior leadership. What you'll need Experience providing leadership-influencing engineering direction across teams. A technical understanding/background (any route: formal or non-traditional). Awareness of cloud practices and strategies. Team leadership experience-mentoring, developing and supporting colleagues. A track record of delivering transformation and continuous improvement. Logical and creative thinking, with strong problem solving skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships. Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively, taking ownership and following through.
