The Estates Department operate and maintain, energy and environmental resources, controls, electrical and mechanical services providing power, lighting, heating, air conditioning to wards, outpatients and operating theatres. Estates directly impacts on patient welfare, frontline clinical care, infection prevention and control and energy efficiency and sustainability across the Trust. We have an exciting opportunity for a committed highly self-motivated individual, the Royal Marsden is looking for a Building Services Assistant (Mechanical Bias) to join the Estates Team in Sutton. This is a highly valuable broad ranging role, which will expose the Building Services Assistant to the whole range of Estates services including mechanical, electrical, building & energy control systems and project management. The candidate must be highly proactive in developing their technical knowledge in all aspects of training and work undertaken, engage in active discussions about skills, techniques, methods and approach to tasks in order to develop as a skilled professional. Main duties of the job
The postholder must use their initiative to manage their time accordingly in order to achieve outputs of the role take ownership of the operation, maintenance and service of all mechanical/plumbing building services and infrastructure. Carry out their duties as instructed and undertake maintenance, installation and new works tasks to a high standard for all engineering services throughout the Trust. This will maximise reliability and availability thereby maintaining environmental conditions and standards of service. Whilst working towards a core trade, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team which is responsible for providing the safe operation of planned, reactive and emergency maintenance. The postholder shall understand how their personal contribution in the role affects Estates services and supports Trust activities/patient care. They shall actively seek to provide a proactive service; minimising risk and downtime of service/systems, plan work and schedule tasks appropriately.

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. A good standard of education with manual dexterity
2. GCSE at minimum grade C or equivalent in English, Maths and Science /Physics
Desirable criteria
3. Service training certificates.
4. Working towards NVQ/City & Guilds Level 2 qualifications or similar in Electrical, Mechanical/Plumbing or Building Services. Experience of working in a large organisation.
5. Evidence of self-advancement
6. Engineering Design Technology at GCSE or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
7. A number of years within a maintenance environment.
8. Able to use all tools and equipment.
9. Demonstration of manual dexterity and a safe use of basic workshop hand tools
Desirable criteria
10. Experience of working in a Hospital Estates department using CAFM, ISO 9001 QMS, Operation & Maintenance Manuals, Building Management Systems.

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
