Bristol (City of Bristol)

Sen support worker
Posted: 6 April
Offer description

We’re working with a much-loved primary school in Bristol that has built a fantastic reputation locally for its warm, welcoming environment and strong sense of community. Staff, pupils, and families work closely together, creating a school where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to be the very best version of themselves.

The school is now looking for a dedicated 1:1 SEN Learning Support Assistant. This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys building strong relationships with children and helping them feel confident, understood, and included in everyday classroom life.

You’ll be joining a school where nurture, respect, and encouragement are part of the daily rhythm, and where support staff play a vital role in helping pupils flourish both academically and personally.

What the role involves

• Providing consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs throughout the school day
• Helping the pupil access classroom learning by adapting tasks and breaking instructions into manageable steps
• Supporting the child to feel confident taking part in class activities alongside their peers
• Following strategies outlined in the pupil’s EHCP and individual support plans
• Working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and wider school team to ensure consistent support
• Liaising with external professionals involved in the pupil’s development
• Keeping clear and accurate records of progress, achievements, and wellbeing
• Building positive, professional relationships with parents and carers
• Supporting the pupil during lunchtime and afternoon learning sessions

This role is about more than learning support. It’s about helping a child feel secure, capable, and proud of what they achieve.

About you

The school is looking for someone who is calm, compassionate, and confident working with children with additional needs.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Recent school-based experience as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant
• Experience supporting pupils with autism or additional learning needs
• A patient and encouraging approach that helps children feel safe and supported
• The ability to work closely with teachers while also using your initiative when needed
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships
• Good organisation and the ability to prepare resources that support learning

Most importantly, you’ll care deeply about helping children grow in confidence and independence.

Why this school stands out

This is a school where staff genuinely feel part of something special. The leadership team prioritises wellbeing, teamwork, and creating a positive environment where everyone feels supported.

You’ll be joining a setting that offers:

• A warm, community-focused school culture
• Friendly, collaborative staff who support one another
• Children who are encouraged to be respectful, resilient, and curious learners
• A supportive leadership team who value the work of support staff
• A school environment where relationships come first and every child matters

Pay will be dependent on experience and qualifications.

If you’re looking for a role where you can truly make a difference to a child’s school experience, this could be a brilliant next step.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
