Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 post within the Interventional Cardiology (IC) Specialist Nurse Team. The post holder should have extensive Cardiology experience at a senior level and an understanding of the Specialist Nurse services within the department.

The post holder should hold a First level degree in Nursing and be willing to, or have masters level study. They should ideally have, or be working towards, both non-medical prescribing and clinical skills.

Main duties of the job

The main aspects of the role are to provide equitable care to patients in relation to management and treatment of their coronary artery disease across the whole patient pathway. This is a busy and varied role that has a huge impact on patient care and service delivery.

The nurse provides expert assessment, planning and evaluation of care for patients with coronary artery disease as well as providing support, information and advice to patients, carers and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. There is a strong focus on enhancing service provision and streamlining patient focused care.

Essential criteria

1. Extensive experience working within cardiology
2. Current teaching experience

Desirable criteria

3. Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary professional
4. Experience of providing counselling to patients/relatives and supporting staff

5. Advanced level of knowledge in cardiology and management of cardiology patients
6. Effectively prioritises and co-ordinates own work
7. Has complex problem solving and assessment skills and can communicate with clinicians at all levels
8. Clinical & leadership skills in speciality using high level analysis and judgment skills to manage patient effectively
9. Efficient time management skills and has the ability to work under pressure to meet the needs of patients/ service
10. Ability to lead/manage staff and the service to optimise resources

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

11. Registered general nurse
12. Nursing degree / diploma
13. Masters in Nursing / working towards or willing to work towards
14. Clinical skills for advanced practitioners
15. Non-Medical Prescribing qualification or working toward
16. Recognisable teaching qualification
17. Current NMC Registration
