About the Role
This role is open to full time, part time, and job share applications, all of which will be assessed equally. We are looking for a proactive, highly organised Accommodations Property Officer to join our Housing Solutions Team. Key responsibilities include ensuring that all Mid Suffolk Temporary Accommodation owned by the Council is safe, compliant, well‑maintained, and ready for families who need it most. As the Accommodations Property Officer you will take ownership of all statutory safety compliance, urgent repairs, and property‑related issues across our units.
Responsibilities
- Lead on all gas safety, EICR, PAT, fire safety, asbestos, legionella, EPC and statutory checks.
- Manage a forward schedule of compliance, keeping 100% certifications up to date.
- Triage and coordinate urgent repairs, ensuring properties remain safe and fit for occupation.
- Work closely with tenants, in‑house teams, contractors and other Accommodations Officers to resolve issues quickly.
- Maintain robust compliance records, dashboards, and audit trails.
- Arrange pre‑let checks, decants, property inspections and support asset‑related decision‑making.
- Provide professional advice on damp, mould, leaks, and hazards, escalating where needed.
What We’re Looking For
Experience in housing, compliance or property management is essential, along with an understanding of safety legislation and statutory landlord duties. We seek a housing professional that can bring the following:
- Knowledge of statutory property compliance (Gas Safety, EICR, FRA actions, alarms, legionella, asbestos, etc.)
- Experience coordinating repairs and contractor performance.
- Strong record‑keeping IT and organisational skills.
- Ability to identify risks and escalating them appropriately.
- Commitment to improving housing standards for vulnerable people.
- Highly organised approach, calm under pressure, and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confidence in interpreting safety certificates and property reports.
- Skill at diagnosing repairs and understanding basic M&E issues.
- Effectiveness at working with contractors and ensuring high performance.
- Strong communication skills to support vulnerable households with sensitivity.
- Ability to work autonomously while thriving as part of a collaborative team.
A full UK driving licence is required.
