We are seeking a dynamic, inspirational, and well-qualified Head of Drama to join a thriving and vibrant department from January 2025 (although an October HT start would be welcomed if possible). Our new Head of Drama will set the direction for the Drama Department, ensuring our students receive an exceptional education in Drama and will stage a variety of productions throughout the school year.

Curriculum
In Geits (P7), pupils learn basic staging through practical and theoretical interpretation, including character development and storytelling skills. In Term 2, pupils engage in project work (script), experiencing small-scale theatrical performances. In 2nds (S1), pupils develop practical and theoretical understanding of voice, movement, and production skills. Pupils in Geits/2nds Drama are expected to attend the theatre at least once a year.
In 3rds (S2), pupils further develop skills from various sources following the structure of National 4 Drama, including digital literacy for short-form movies and production skills, leading to extended group performances assessed practically and theoretically. Pupils are expected to attend at least one theatre production annually and complete an evaluation of the performance.
In 4ths (S3)–AH, pupils follow the SQA programmes of National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher qualifications, with opportunities for directing, production, and acting each year. Pupils are also presented for LAMDA examinations in acting, public speaking, reading for performance, mime, and musical theatre.
Facilities
The main venue for large-scale theatrical productions is the Magnusson Theatre, which seats 250. Academic drama teaching, rehearsals, and smaller productions take place in the upstairs classroom or the Magnusson Centre. The department has a designated costume and properties area. The classroom is used as a flexible makeup and green room prior to productions.
The School’s city centre location facilitates visits to professional theatres within Edinburgh and the surrounding area.
