About the Role
Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable low‑carbon electricity.
The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke. We are bringing together a single delivery organisation with years of learning and experience from other major complex infrastructure programmes worldwide.
Responsibilities
* Communicate and implement the HSW strategy.
* Build solid relationships with stakeholders and can deliver on customer strategic and tactical requirements.
* Undertake Health and Safety compliance inspections, tours and audits to satisfy the monthly HSW Assurance Plan, the HSW Manager, or as requested by the CWA in response to emerging risks specifically across weekend working.
* Able to identify and rank risk associated with CWA work activities.
* Able to prepare fact driven reports following inspections, tours, audits and investigations.
* Support the implementation of and ensure compliance with the Sizewell C (SZC) project standards and the CWA Safety Management System (SMS).
* Able to build relationships with the CWA project teams and wider interested stakeholders.
* Support project teams during work planning to evaluate and address potential risks.
* Trained to CWA standard for Investigating Incidents (Principal Incident Investigators HFAC’s Training).
* Able to respond to and support / deal effectively with emerging events.
* Works closely with the Duty Manager / Weekend Lead and operational teams to respond to any events.
* Able to coordinate and share relevant information required to compile the appropriate reports when an event has occurred.
* Can plan and undertake witness accounts / statements.
* Able to feed information into the Project and Parent Company Reporting Systems.
* Understands the CWA and Project Event Reporting Procedural requirements.
* Ensure that lessons learned from monitoring, events and or from the Alliance parent companies are communicated and adopted by the project teams.
* Able to support or deliver training and advisory sessions to operational teams and Tier 2 contractors including: Setting to Work, Fact Finders (including Just / Fair Culture), Occupational Health (OH) and CWA SMS Familiarisation.
* Support the review and updating of relevant project HSW documentation.
* Support operational teams to deliver Zero Harm and the Zero Harm Events Calendar.
* Promote the use of the project and CWA reporting tools ensuring that actions are taken, and feedback delivered.
* Ability to communicate and promote a positive Health & Safety culture.
* Undertake reviews of relevant safety documentation, e.g. work package plans / task briefings.
* Able to motivate, coach and support the CWA Project Management teams to deliver the HSW project requirements.
* Supports the implementation of the Nuclear Safety message during engagements with the whole CWA team.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
* Ability to influence and promote a positive HSW culture, by providing constructive feedback to others around their performance, strengths and development needs.
* Able to engage at all levels within the CWA operational team structure.
* Competence in accident and incident investigation.
* Has a good understanding of UK Health and Safety Legislation.
* Able to use data and information for the preparation of HSW reports.
* Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) competence.
* NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
* Minimum Grad IOSH (or working towards).
* 42 hours per week.
Desirable
* NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety.
* Has previously experience in a Health and Safety Advisor role with relevant constructed related or transferable skills.
* Good knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
