Workshop Manager needed in Plymouth Paying £38.09 per ref 1678624 Full time hours on a temporary basis Key Responsibilities Workshop Operations Oversee all daily workshop activity to ensure efficient delivery of scheduled maintenance, repairs, and statutory inspections. Ensure all vehicles are inspected, maintained, and tested on time and in full compliance with legislation, VOSA requirements, and Operator Licence obligations. Monitor workshop performance, ensuring high standards of service, safety, and output. Team Leadership Manage and support a team of 14 operational staff (14 FTE), overseeing workloads, priorities, performance, and development. Promote a positive team culture focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Budget & Resource Management Manage a service budget of £750,000, ensuring value for money in all maintenance, repair and inspection activities. Optimise resource allocation, parts usage, procurement, and contractor relationships to support efficient operations. Compliance, Safety & Quality Develop, implement, and monitor workshop policies, procedures, and processes to ensure safe and efficient practices. Take full responsibility for Health & Safety within the workshop, including risk assessments, equipment condition checks, safe systems of work, and statutory compliance. Ensure vehicles and workshop operations meet legal, safety, and quality standards at all times. Customer Service & Performance Ensure a customer‑focused service, delivering work within agreed timescales and to the required standards. Monitor KPIs, performance data, service delivery, and job turnaround times. Continuous Improvement Maintain current knowledge of legislation, industry standards, and best practice within fleet maintenance. Identify opportunities to improve workshop processes, efficiency, and service quality.
