We have an exciting opportunity to join our Engineering team as a Multi-Skilled Engineer at our Nicholas & Harris site, part of the Finsbury Food Group. Nicholas & Harris has over 180 years of heritage in craft baking methods. If you enjoy artisanal, organic, and speciality breads, or have specific dietary or nutritional preferences, our Salisbury bakery has you covered.
Our Multi-Skilled Engineers are responsible for carrying out all planned and preventative maintenance, as well as responding swiftly to any breakdowns that occur across the bakery. Living by the Finsbury Food Group values of Teamwork, Ownership, Communication, Honesty, and Respect, you’ll work as part of the wider Engineering team to ensure all corrective work orders are completed within business-critical timeframes—minimising any risk to the operation of the bakery.

To succeed in this role, you’ll be a qualified Multi-Skilled Engineer with prior experience in a food manufacturing and/or processing environment. While not essential, it would be advantageous if you hold an IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) certification and the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
This is what you’ll actually do!
As a Multi-Skilled Engineer, you’ll be part of the wider Engineering team, maintaining a wide range of production equipment as well as carrying out general maintenance and installations across the site. You’ll often work independently, demonstrating confidence in online fault finding and process development, while reporting updates and issues to the Engineering Reliability Manager.
To ensure we meet the needs of our major retail customers, a key part of your role will be reducing the risk of extended downtime in the bakery—helping us achieve our production target of less than 2% downtime. You’ll need to work well under pressure, displaying a strong, creative problem-solving approach.
Performance will be measured through your completion rates of:
* Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
* Work orders
* Health & Safety-related tasks
We operate 24/7, and we are always looking for ways to improve. You’ll play an important role in continuous improvement and productivity projects. This will include supporting with any unscheduled or emergency maintenance, fault finding, and necessary repairs—always working to identify root causes.
A basic understanding of IT is essential, as you’ll be responsible for monitoring and recording all maintenance work using our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including durations and materials used.
You’ll also be expected to follow all company policies, including those related to Health & Safety, Security, and Hygiene, to ensure full compliance with Food Safety Standards.
