The role of Transfusion Practitioner involves collaborative working with the wider teams in the organisation and the role is vital in promoting safe transfusion practice in line with national and local guidelines, underpinned by Patient Blood Management principles. Transfusion Practitioners can come from a nursing or biomedical scientist background, and as such will require either Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration. To adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and BSQR. Provide evidence to support Trust quality objectives and the CQC fundamental standards, as well as any appropriate NICE and BSH guidelines relevant to transfusion practice. Advert The post holder is responsible for the management of clinical matters relating to Blood Transfusion within the Trust, including incident investigation, and transfusion training. Although reporting to the Blood Transfusion Manager, the post holder will be required to work closely with the Clinical Educators and Ward Managers to ensure safe transfusion practices, both in the clinical areas and the laboratory. The successful candidate be expected to have an expert knowledge of Blood Transfusion and be keen to develop this knowledge further. The successful applicant will be expected to be flexible and assertive with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The role will involve liaising with different staff groups and staff levels who take part in the transfusion process. You will be able to work autonomously as well as part of the wider team. You will be required to represent the department at various forums. To be a visible presence in clinical areas to ensure that the clinical area is supported to achieve safe transfusion practice. To lead education and support relevant to the transfusion process to nursing, medical and clinical support staff. To conduct audit of practice in clinical areas and investigate incidents and variances from blood transfusion guidelines and to ensure any required corrective action is implemented following incidents and audit.
