Position: Roman Catholic Chaplain (Office‑based and 24‑hour on‑call)
Responsibilities
* Provide day‑to‑day pastoral, religious and spiritual care to Roman Catholic patients, staff, relatives and visitors, addressing complex situations and recording activities in the chaplaincy data system.
* Collaborate with Lead Chaplain and chaplaincy team, attending regular team meetings and contributing to policy development and implementation across the Trust.
* Conduct regular Roman Catholic public worship services in hospital chapels and other places of worship and assist with the administration of sacraments.
* Offer sacramental and pastoral support to dying Roman Catholic patients and families, and respond to bereaved families as requested.
* Prepare and deliver high quality training, development and information for clinical colleagues on spiritual care of Roman Catholic patients and the chaplaincy services.
* Maintain knowledge of NHS professional protocols, guidelines and competencies for chaplaincy services, and advise Lead Chaplain on necessary resources.
* Promote understanding and application of spiritual care of Roman Catholic patients across all ages and maintain a stock of religious resources such as rosaries, Bibles, prayer books and holding crosses.
* Provide pastoral and spiritual support for Roman Catholic parents and families experiencing loss, and support relatives visiting the mortuary.
* Offer staff support following complex clinical situations and collaborate with allied professionals to develop learning and working practice together.
* Commit to professional and spiritual growth and development, and assist in managing charitable funds for donations received in the course of ministry.
* Participate fully in the 24‑hour chaplaincy on‑call service (on‑call rota 1:3, irregular hours, responding to pager and mobile phone).
