The Head of Development is responsible for leading and growing Eastside’s development department, working closely with the rest of the leadership team to drive delivery and technical excellence. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day development operations while balancing technical and commercial objectives.
Key responsibilities:
* Leadership & team management
* Lead and grow the development team, including developers and QA specialists.
* Define clear role expectations and progression frameworks.
* Oversee recruitment and implement effective training processes to grow technical proficiency.
* Foster a culture of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and accountability.
* Handle line management duties and help achieve HR objectives.
* Technical & commercial delivery
* Work with the COO and CTO to achieve key technical and commercial objectives.
* Design and implement processes to fulfill key commercial objectives.
* Help translate Eastside’s technical vision and roadmap into executable technical goals.
* Monitor, report and implement measures to improve key technical and commercial metrics.
* Contribute to resource planning, budgeting, and capacity management.
* Promote commercial awareness and pragmatism within the department
* Cross-functional collaboration
* Support the Client Services and Commercial teams with technical client relationships.
* Collaborate across departments to streamline interdepartmental processes.
* Contribute to strategic planning as part of the leadership team.
Requirements:
* Proven experience leading and growing remote teams.
* Experienced technical background in modern web technology fundamentals, architectures and practices (including both frontend and backend development.)
* Excellent leadership, coaching and people management skills.
* Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on commercial pragmatism.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Reporting:
* Under direct line management of the COO.
* Reports directly to the COO and CTO providing regular updates on commercial and technical concerns.
* Participates in the wider leadership team and quarterly business reviews.
