Job Overview The role is a combined clinical and support post across Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust sites – City Road, Northwick Park and Ealing. It comprises 10.25 programmed activities, 7.75 of which provide direct clinical care, with additional professional and administrative duties.
Main Duties
Provide High Quality Care to Patients
Medically qualified, maintain GMC specialist registration and license to practice.
Develop and maintain competencies required for the post.
Attend agreed direct clinical care programmed activities promptly.
Engage patients in decision making and respond to their views.
Performance Management
Collaborate with medical, nursing and managerial staff to achieve clinical efficiency, quality of outcomes, financial and operational targets.
Implement cost-improvement programmes, manage locum agency spend and drug budgets.
Ensure accuracy of clinical data for the team.
Research Governance, Teaching & Audit
Comply with all Moorfields research governance policies, obtain ethics approval, meet audit monitoring and training requirements.
Contribute to research, teaching and training within the service; adhere to Trust intellectual property policy.
Professional Development
Participate in CME and CPD opportunities; enrol in part‑time medical education degree courses if suitable.
Take at least two weeks paid study leave each year with expenses if applicable.
Revalidation Requirements
Maintain a portfolio of the last five years to satisfy GMC Revalidation criteria.
Provide supporting information for any joint or fixed‑term appointments.
General Duties and Compliance
Adhere to Health & Safety at Work Act, Information Governance Policy, DBS requirements and Trust infection control procedures.
Support safeguarding, equal opportunities, no‑smoking and Freedom of Information policies.
Ensure equipment is clean, decontaminated and infection‑controlled.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications
FRCOphth or equivalent
Full GMC Registration, eligible for GMC specialist register
Higher degree (desirable)
Training and Knowledge
Completed higher specialist training in ophthalmology
Clinical fellowship in strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology, extended experience in strabismus surgery
Competence in surgical management of strabismus
Formal teaching experience (desirable)
Skills and Abilities
High degree of clinical and surgical skill in strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology
Audit leadership leading to service improvement (desirable)
Teaching and presentation skills (desirable)
Experience
Extensive experience managing patients with strabismus and related pathology
Extensive experience managing paediatric ophthalmology, including children with all ocular pathology
Extensive experience providing ROP treatment
Personal Qualities
Good team‑building skills
Ability to lead and coordinate clinical teams
Excellent communication skills
Experience organising and managing a busy clinical service (desirable)
