Managed Equipment Service Development Lead

The closing date is 14 May 2026

Sherwood Forest Hospitals are seeking an exceptional and driven Managed Equipment Service (MES) Development Lead to spearhead the creation of a major, multi‑year MES programme, initially centred on theatres and the cardiac catheterisation laboratory. This is a high‑profile leadership role at the heart of a complex transformation initiative that will shape procurement expected to exceed £20m over the contract term.

You will provide senior strategic leadership in developing both outline and full business cases, ensuring full alignment with national, regulatory, and organisational standards. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you will lead structured pre‑procurement market engagement to test assumptions, inform commercial strategy, and secure best value.

A key part of the role will be establishing and overseeing robust governance arrangements to support a high‑value procurement programme, ensuring risks are well managed and decision‑making is transparent, evidence‑based, and tightly controlled.

Knowledge Requirements

* Expert knowledge of business case development, financial modelling and benefits realisation methodologies.
* Strong commercial and contractual understanding within public sector procurement environments.
* Advanced programme management and change leadership skills.
* Excellent risk management and governance capability.
* Highly developed analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
* Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly at executive level.
* Ability to negotiate, influence and build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.
* Knowledge of NHS England assurance processes and approval frameworks.
* Understanding of clinical governance requirements in technology‑enabled services.
* Knowledge of digital inventory systems, supply chain management or clinical equipment standardisation.

Qualifications - Academic/Professional

* MBA or Masters in healthcare management, finance or related discipline. Or equivalent relevant experience.
* Postgraduate level qualification or equivalent level of experience in healthcare management, business, finance, procurement or programme leadership.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development at senior leadership level.
* Formal training in programme or project management (e.g. MSP, PRINCE2, PMP or equivalent).
* Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) qualification, equivalent commercial accreditation or equivalent level of experience.

Further Training

* Evidence of continued professional, managerial and personal development.

Experience

* Significant senior‑level experience leading complex, high‑value transformation or infrastructure programmes within healthcare or public sector environments.
* Proven track record of developing large‑scale business cases to national or regulatory standards (e.g. NHS England, HM Treasury Green Book, Cabinet Office).
* Experience of pre‑procurement market engagement and preparation of major procurement programmes.
* Experience managing complex governance, risk and assurance processes.
* Experience of influencing Executive and Board level decision‑making.
* Direct experience of Managed Equipment Services, clinical technology programmes or large service outsourcing models.
* Experience of NHS capital planning, commercial frameworks and public sector procurement regulations.
* Experience of leading multi‑organisation programmes.

Contractual Requirements

* Ability to work flexibly across organisational boundaries and external partners.
* Commitment to NHS values, equality, diversity and inclusion.
* Willingness to travel across sites and partner organisations as required.
