Job overview

Are you a passionate Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) who wants to make a meaningful difference to some of Bradford’s most vulnerable children and young people? We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 SCPHN School Nurse to join the BDCFT School Nursing Special Needs Team, leading the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme and driving forward key public health priorities within SEMH schools across the district.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate public health practitioner to play a key role in delivering the Healthy Child Programme to a cohort of children and young people with complex and often unmet health needs. The successful post holder will lead on the delivery of universal and targeted school nursing interventions, ensuring children in specialist SEMH settings receive equitable access to preventative healthcare, health promotion, and early intervention.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the development of School Nursing practice and important Public Health messages within the School Nursing Special Needs Team, which ensures equitable delivery of healthcare, to a culturally diverse school aged population with Complex health and SEND needs, attending Special Schools in Bradford and Airedale.

Contribute to the leadership of the School Nursing Special Needs, leading more junior colleagues, supporting and challenging practice, nurturing the development of others to ensure that the service delivered is to a safe and high quality.

Manage your own School Nursing caseload effectively acting as a role model to others within a skill mixed school nursing team, offering advice, support and guidance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job Overview continued-

Working in partnership with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals, the SCPHN School Nurse will drive forward important public health priorities, including emotional health and wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, safeguarding, and reducing health inequalities. The role will involve assessment of health needs, delivery of evidence-based interventions, and ensuring appropriate signposting or referral to specialist services where required.

As part of the team, the post holder will contribute to a dynamic and evolving service, helping to shape the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme within SEMH education settings. This role offers the opportunity to use specialist public health skills to influence positive health outcomes, support vulnerable children and young people, and strengthen partnership working across education and health services.

Essential criteria

1. Registered Nurse 1st level
2. School Nurse qualification - Certificate / Diploma / Specialist Community Public Health Practitioner (School Nursing) Degree (or working towards) Current NMC Registration

Desirable criteria

3. Teaching and assessing in clinical practice qualification.
4. Counselling skills qualification
5. Child and adolescent mental health qualification.
6. Registered Nurse (Child Branch) or RSCN
7. Family planning

Experience

8. Experience of working with diverse populations
