Main duties of the job
We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and conscientious individual with a strong work ethic. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver what is required to achieve a safe, high quality and effective service whilst continuously striving for improvement. The Trust serves a population of over 400,000 and is based in laboratories at Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI). The department has full UKAS ISO15189:2012 accreditation and has IBMS approval for training. The department offers training and development opportunities for the right candidate to further develop their skills and ambitions.
The Biochemistry section is well equipped with a Siemens Labcell tracking system, Versacell X3, Advia chemistry 1800/XPT and Centaur XPT analysers interfaced to the Centralink system and linemaster software, along side other semi-automated platforms.
Working for our organisation
Following a period of training and competency assessments the successful candidate will be expected to participate in round the clock working patterns, which include earlies, days, lates, nights, bank holidays and weekend working primarily at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, but with a requirement to work on a rotational basis at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
Previous laboratory experience and basic IT skills would be an advantage for the position however full training will be provided.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
Essential criteria
* Accredited Degree in Biomedical Science and a completed registration portfolio
* registration with HCPC
* Demonstrate a commitment to and participation in continued professional development. Create own personal development plan.
Desirable criteria
* Willing to undertake post graduate qualification e.g. Specialist Portfolio
* Fully trained in all areas of the Clinical Biochemistry department
* Knowledge of the specimen pathways for all samples, including reference laboratory tests.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
Essential criteria
* Experience of training other staff members
* Experience of working as part of a team.
* Experience with laboratory computer systems.
* Willingness to take part in providing out of hours service
* To be able to deal with sensitive data in accordance with departmental and Trust guide lines
* Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in laboratory practice in Clinical Biochemistry Department.
* Good IT skills
Desirable criteria
* experience of working within a Clinical Biochemistry department
* Supervision of MLA and assistant/associate practitioner grade staff
* Experience of stock control systems.
* Experience of involvement in laboratory and clinical audit
* Active participation in Service Development.

* Ability to run, maintain and fault find on laboratory equipment.

The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £54.40, Standard £26.40 or Basic £26.40) from your salary when you commence in post (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £16 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
