The Environment Agency is looking to recruit a fixed‑term Energy Advisor, up to 2 years, who will support regulation and sustainable development in the energy sector. The role requires technical knowledge of combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries, and a strategic approach to deliver environmental outcomes aligned with the UK Net Zero strategy.
Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
 * Develop strategy for the energy sectors, produce tools to support regulation, development and delivery of environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
 * Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations, and other industry players.
 * Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incident periods.
Requirements
 * Experience working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge with experience of controlling air emissions.
 * Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies, academia.
 * Teamwork and collaboration skills; experience working with a wide portfolio, aligning priorities and flexing to deliver outcomes.
 * Experience working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
