Overview
Job Title: Mechanical Fitter / Assembler (Hydraulics) – Location: Newcastle upon Tyne. Department: Production / Assembly. Reports To: Workshop Supervisor / Production Manager.

Role Purpose
To assemble, test, and commission hydraulic and mechanical systems and equipment to engineering specifications, ensuring all builds meet the company's strict quality and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Assemble hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical components from engineering drawings and technical documentation.
* Build and test hydraulic power units, control panels, and pressure systems.
* Conduct pressure and leak testing safely and accurately to required specifications.
* Read and interpret engineering drawings, hydraulic schematics, and bills of materials.
* Ensure all assemblies meet quality, dimensional, and performance requirements.
* Work closely with design and engineering teams to resolve build or design issues.
* Maintain accurate build records, inspection reports, and test documentation.
* Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with company HSE procedures.
* Support continuous improvement activities to enhance build processes and product quality.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter / Assembler in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
* Strong background in hydraulic systems assembly, fault finding, and pressure testing.
* Ability to interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings and hydraulic schematics.
* Competent use of mechanical hand and power tools.
* Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
* Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* Commitment to safe working practices and quality standards.
Desirable Qualifications
* Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
* Familiarity with pneumatic systems and testing equipment.
* Experience working to ISO quality systems.
* Forklift truck or overhead crane experience (training can be provided).
