Job Purpose/Summary:
Smurfit Westrock is seeking a highly talented Senior H&S Manager that will have responsibility and oversight for health and safety within the UK and Ireland region of our Consumer Packaging business. Based at our Newcastle facility with support provided to sister sites within the region. This position will report to the EHS Director for Consumer Packaging, EMEA.
Job Responsibilities/Key accountabilities:
1. Initially the provision of dedicated support, guidance and coaching to improve the overall H&S performance and culture at the Newcastle site
2. Coaching and influencing leadership and team members to affect change in H&S.
3. Guiding site-based H&S professionals to drive progress towards achieving objectives and targets across the business.
4. Developing sustainable management systems for H&S to effectively drive engagement, identify, and reduce risk and provide a safe and healthy work environment.
5. Assisting operations with implementing Smurfit Westrock Safety Management System, developing, and implementing effective injury prevention programs and ensuring compliance with company policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
6. Developing and implementing strategic performance improvement plans across the region.
7. Ensuring strategy deployment from the enterprise level to the business and site levels is consistently completed annually and aligns with enterprise-wide targets and objectives.
8. Coaching local leaders on risk analysis, event learning/investigation procedures, root cause analysis, creating and executing corrective counter measures.
9. Implementing industry standard metrics systems at all sites including Incident Rate, Severity Rate, proactive metric tracking including management system assessments, and driving corrective actions in partnership with operations leadership.
10. Lead and support capital safety reviews for new product and process development, facility modification, product manufacturing modifications and new equipment/machinery installations.
What you will need to suceed:
11. Extensive knowledge and skills implementing or transforming best practices
12. Prior experience in the development/implementation of a Safety Management System
13. Interpersonal skills to create a safety culture and be a safety advocate throughout the company
14. High degree of proficiency in data and statistical analysis
15. Proven verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organization
16. Knowledgeable in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk reduction techniques, including machine guarding, ergonomics, and occupational health and wellness
17. General knowledge and understanding of safety regulations affecting the region of work
18. Technical knowledge of manufacturing facilities
19. Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide and influence others.
20. Preferred knowledge and experience with Human and Organization Performance (HOP) as it relates to culture
21. Experience working with H&S software systems as an aligned approach to safety and environmental data management
22. Minimum of NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6
23. At least 3-5 years working in a Senior or Regional H&S role
24. Ability to travel across UK and Ireland
