We are currently advertising for a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist. This post is for 10 programmed activities, with participation in a 1:10 on-call rota. A detailed job plan is included in the information pack.
The position offers the opportunity to work in a small, ACSA-accredited department within an award-winning hospital, located in an area of outstanding natural beauty near Skipton and Ilkley, close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join a team of Consultants, contributing to the development of the Department of Anaesthesia at Airedale Hospital.
Applicants must:
* Be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of admission, if currently in a UK training program (provide expected CCT date if applicable).
* Be an associate specialist demonstrating consultant-level ability via CV and interview.
* Be an SAS doctor signed off to work autonomously at consultant level, per SAS charter, via CV and interview.
The initial job plan is for 10 PA's, with potential to extend up to 12, including additional responsibilities and SPA time. Professional and study leave are available for extra responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities
Anaesthesia
Provide preoperative assessment, anesthesia, and immediate postoperative care across various hospital settings, including pediatric patients down to age 3, subject to agreement.
On Call Duties
On call from home, starting at 1730, ending at 0800, with weekend shifts as a resident or full shifts. Responsibilities include emergency theatre cover, trauma response, supervision of critical care transfers, and bed management. A ward round of critical care patients is required daily.
Supporting Professional Activities
CPD, audits, clinical governance, job planning, annual appraisal, clinical management, mandatory training, teaching, and participation in departmental activities.
Teaching
Assist the Royal College of Anaesthetists College Tutor, contribute to exam preparation, and participate in journal clubs and tutorials.
Clinical Effectiveness
Attend governance meetings, support junior staff, implement guidelines, and participate in audits and reporting.
Person Specification
Qualifications include MBBS, GMC registration, and FRCA or equivalent. Desirable qualifications include advanced courses and management training. Essential experience involves GMC registration, understanding of NHS policies, and broad anaesthesia experience. Skills include perioperative and obstetric anesthesia, teaching, and teamwork. Attributes include willingness for additional responsibilities and involvement in quality initiatives.
