CONTRACT TYPE: 5 month Fixed-term Contract/ Attachment, Full-time
LOCATION: London
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £30,000 - £40,000 + London Weighting, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of the Role
Join the Money and Work Unit within BBC Newsgathering to help audiences understand the biggest business stories of the day. As a Data Journalist, you’ll use data and compelling visual storytelling to bring clarity to complex topics, creating charts and analysis for BBC Online and TV that inform and engage UK and global audiences.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* Generate original ideas for business data stories and propose effective visual treatments.
* Analyse and interpret data using statistical tools, presenting insights clearly for non specialist audiences.
* Produce charts and graphics that bring business stories to life on BBC Online and TV.
* Work closely with reporters, editors, and other data journalists to take stories from concept to publication.
* Develop a strong understanding of the Money and Work Unit’s goals and how data journalism supports them.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Strong knowledge of business journalism and data related to financial markets.
* Proficiency with data analysis tools including Excel, R, and Flourish, with the ability to create charts and graphics.
* Solid understanding of statistics and statistical analysis.
* Experience cleaning, parsing, and querying datasets.
* Proven ability to find and visualise newsworthy stories using data, working to tight deadlines.
Desirable But Not Required
* Additional experience with tools such as Flourish and QGIS.
* Experience using Freedom of Information requests to gather data.
* A track record of delivering long form or long term data driven journalism projects.
* Familiarity with navigating data sources such as ONS, OECD and similar repositories.
* Experience collaborating on cross platform storytelling for online and broadcast.
