The Signalling System Specialist provides expert technical support across a range of signalling systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient railway operations. Working closely with technicians and engineering teams, the Specialist contributes to maintenance, project delivery, and asset management. They also play a key role in sharing knowledge, mentoring colleagues, and supporting continuous improvement across the department. Flexibility and responsiveness are essential, as the role adapts to evolving operational needs across both UK and French infrastructure.
* Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards, legislation, and Eurotunnel policies.
* Support the Management Team in promoting safe, high-quality engineering practices aligned with legal and technical standards.
* Provide second-line technical support, including fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, testing, and commissioning.
* Apply engineering expertise to support asset management, data analysis, and departmental strategy, as directed by the Technical Lead.
* Contribute to CAPEX planning by providing technical input and forecasting maintenance and renewal needs.
* Offer detailed engineering insight and data for assets within area of expertise to support decision-making and project development.
* Monitor and interpret asset data to assess condition, life expectancy, and maintenance effectiveness, supporting continuous improvement.
* Provide specialist guidance to ensure asset safety, reliability, and compliance with operational requirements.
* Maintain and ensure engineering documentation and practices meet industry standards, including CSM-RA and CDM regulations.
* Support contract compliance by ensuring engineering standards are upheld in all relevant external works.
* Promote learning and development by sharing expertise, delivering training, and assessing team members when required.
* Participate in the specialist on-call roster and remain available to support operational continuity and crisis response.
* Provide technical support across the business when requested, including major projects, incident investigations, and emergency interventions.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* HNC (or higher) in Engineering or a related discipline
* Demonstrable experience in a senior or lead signalling role
* Strong knowledge of railway signalling systems and operational environments
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
* Experience in safety, crisis, and incident management
* Familiarity with change management processes, including CSM-RA
* Skilled in accident investigation and root cause analysis
* Able to work independently, take initiative, and manage priorities
* Understanding of external regulations and standards in Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental compliance
* Analytical mindset with a focus on trends and data-driven decision-making
Desirable
* NVQ A1 Assessor qualification
* Working knowledge of both English and French
