2927 - Advanced Paediatric Speech & Language Therapist
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly, innovative and supportive Neonatal/Paediatric Therapy Team.
This exciting Band 7 opportunity involves working across neonatal and paediatric services, supporting infants and children with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties. The post holder will provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and intervention for preterm/vulnerable babies, supporting the implementation of developmental care. The post will also include working closely with families and the wider multidisciplinary team including Neonatal Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.
The role provides a chance to work at an advanced level on the Neonatal Unit in a supportive environment alongside experienced Neonatal Therapists. Youll play a key role in providing specialist assessment and management of neonatal and paediatric feeding and communication difficulties.

Main duties of the job
* Managing a complex caseload independently.
* Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams.
* Supporting parents, carers and healthcare professionals through training and advice.
* Participate in service development, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
* Provide supervision and support to junior staff and students where appropriate.
* Provide support, supervision and training to other professionals in relation to this client group.
* Reflect on practice, both individually and with peers to identify own strengths and needs, demonstrate Continuing Professional Development and to maintain a portfolio or equivalent in line with professional and Trust guidelines.
* Liaise with and effectively communicate with the Therapy Clinical Lead, ensuring issues surrounding Governance and Quality of SLT service provision are escalated appropriately through the Clinical Business Unit/to performance meetings in an appropriate manner.
* Participate in the development of innovations in therapy services and related service delivery issues, risk management, quality standard setting and clinical effectiveness.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Awareness
* Highly developed substantial specialist experience of a range of clinical protocols in paediatric dysphagia including neonates, infants and children.
* Proven clinical competence in the assessment, diagnosis and management of children with dysphagia including neonates, infants and children.
* Experience co‑ordinating the work of others.
* Substantial experience in developing, writing, delivering and evaluating training to others including groups.
* Substantial knowledge of contemporary issues in the Health, Education and Social Care Community relevant to the client group.
* To demonstrate substantial and comprehensive skills in the field of paediatric dysphagia, neonates and young children, including the provision of specialist programmes of intervention.
* Substantial knowledge of the functions of related professions with this client group.
Experience
* Proven relevant continuous professional development in paediatric dysphagia, including neonates.
Qualifications
* Degree in Speech and Language Pathology and Therapy, or equivalent.
* RCSLT Certificate to Practice as a Speech and Language Therapist.
* Current registration with the Health Professions Council.
* Post Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Dysphagia.
* Advanced Post Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Dysphagia.
Skills and Abilities
* Significant relevant clinical skills gained during a postgraduate period.
* Skills to promote the service to the public and other health, education and social service professionals.
* Understand the need for confidentiality.
* Awareness of health and safety requirements.
