Description


The Role

The Family Intervention practitioner (FIP) will be responsible for providing an intensive in-home support service through assessment, counselling skills, reunification, education/training and therapeutic interventions with children, young people and their families/carers where a child remains living at home and subject to ongoing intervention and monitoring by Child Safety Services or where a child is being reunified to their family from an out-of-home care placement.

The key objective of this position is to support clients of Child Safety Service Centres where ongoing intervention with a family is required, to assist clients to exit the child protection system and prevent families from re-entering the system. This position also respects and reflects the Society's mission.

This position requires staff to work in compliance with the Human Services Quality Framework and the Child Protection Act 1999. Staff are also required to always adhere to the Society's Child Protection Framework.

This is a Permanent, Full Time Position (38 hours per week) role based in Ipswich.



Skills And Experiences


To be successful in the role, you will meet the following criteria:

We are seeking a professional who demonstrates:

* Authentic commitment to promoting children's safety and wellbeing, while strengthening parenting capacity through engagement and empowerment.
* Expertise in delivering a wide range of therapeutic interventions to families, providing practical support, psychoeducation, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches with a particular focus on building parenting capacity, strengthening child–parent attachment, and supporting child development, delivered within a trauma-informed framework to ensure compassionate and effective care.
* Sound knowledge and understanding of the Child Protection Act 1999 and familiarity with Family Preservation and Reunification practice models.
* A proven ability to engage effectively with resistant or hard to reach families with complex multi layered concerns, applying empathy, persistence, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
* A well-defined professional framework that guides your practice and decision making.
* Advanced written communication skills, including the preparation of case notes and reports, supported by strong computer literacy.
* Flexibility to occasionally step in outside standard business hours when families need you the most.
* Commitment to cultural awareness and inclusive practice, ensuring services are respectful and responsive to diverse communities.
* High standards of professionalism and integrity in all interactions with clients, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
* The ability to collaborate within a team while also thriving independently, fuelled by motivation, initiative and creativity.

Role requirements

* Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or related degree from a recognised institution
* Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar position that demonstrates your knowledge and skills in working with at-risk families who are subject to child protection interventions.
* Valid driving licence
* Current BlueCard
* Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy, values and mission of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society.
