The role
This role involves supporting United Utilities Water Network to meet its regulatory targets and customer commitments for leakage control. You will be responsible for proactive and reactive leakage detection activities within District Meter Areas (DMAs) and Zone (DMZs), deploying appropriate detection methodologies based on technical requirements. Collaboration with the Network Maintenance Alliance (NMA) is essential to ensure timely repairs and resolution of leakage issues, including proactive private leakage detection to resolution. You will raise repairs through the NMA and support their repair process, ensuring safety, customer focus, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness.
Key accountabilities
* Undertake proactive leakage detection using methods such as correlating, sounding, step testing, and data loggers.
* Manage leaks upstream of the customer boundary and serve defective fitting notices when leaks are detected.
* Identify and detect leaks on the network and customer premises, raising repairs accordingly.
* Conduct reactive leakage detection for customer-reported P2 leaks as needed.
* Assist in resolving operability issues and liaise with Repair and Maintenance teams to minimize unnecessary excavations.
* Provide leakage support for third-party damage incidents.
* Interpret flow and pressure data to identify areas for further leakage detection.
* Manage work orders for leak repairs.
* Assess network activities and undertake risk assessments for planned low-risk work with support from Network Technicians or TSO.
* Support colleagues during incidents and events.
* Coordinate with Network Technicians for high-risk work risk assessments.
* Use turbidity monitors to monitor water quality during leakage activities.
* Carry out red-lining activities and ensure PPE and vehicles comply with health and safety policies.
* Train and support new staff and apprentices.
Skills & experience
* Knowledge of water networks and leakage detection techniques.
* Proven ability to work independently and in high-performance teams, achieving goals and scorecard measures.
* GCSE grade C or above, City and Guilds, or equivalent technical and customer skills.
* Technical experience in water network operations, leakage detection, and repair.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Effective influencing and negotiation skills.
* Strong customer service focus and issue resolution skills.
