Veritas Education is recruiting an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students within a Secondary SEMH school in the Kingston area. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.
About the School
Specialist Secondary SEMH provision
Nurture‑led and trauma‑informed approach
Small class sizes with high levels of support
Strong focus on emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs
Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour management
Assist students with engagement in learning and classroom activities
Work closely with teachers, pastoral and SEN teams
Build positive, consistent and trusting relationships with students
Support students during transitions and unstructured times
Skills & Experience Required
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
Calm, patient and resilient approach
Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
Confidence managing and de‑escalating challenging behaviour
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Background in education, care, youth work or similar is highly desirable
Strong commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
