Job Title - Workshop Operations Manager
Location – Sutton in Ashfield
Report to – Services Director
Salary – up to £65,000 Per Annum & 3% pension, 23 days AL, can buy into benefits
This position will require co-ordination, day to day operation and continual improvement of the Workshops on the Sutton site. This includes Mitchells Power Systems and Central Driveline Services as well as any service business units on site.
Responsibilities
* Deliver defect free products and services, right first time and on time in full.
* Support the quality department to analyse failure modes and ensure corrective/preventative actions are completed and maintained.
* Lead monthly workshop Quality meeting with support from QHSE.
* Lean
* Champion a culture of continual improvement to maximise margin through waste elimination, enhanced efficiency, and optimal engineer utilisation, leveraging Lean tools such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, and Kanban.
* Ensure effective workflow both internally and with external WIP partners, optimising pull systems and reducing lead times to minimise inventory and overproduction.
* Lead and facilitate Continuous Improvement (CI) projects, introduce Kaizen events, and training/development sessions for the team, utilising Lean Six Sigma principles to identify opportunities, implement solutions, and sustain gains.
* Monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) related to Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), cycle times, and process capability.
* Lead and manage operational and improvement projects from concept through to delivery, ensuring time, cost, and quality objectives are achieved.
* Support technical training and team development
* Ensure shop floor efficiency targets are met and the workshop has the tools required to effectively complete the job
* Plan technical resource effectively to ensure that department needs are met throughout the year and ensure that equipment and trained/experienced resource are available when required
* Analyse monthly output and GM to ensure cost effective production
* Review weekly overtime spend and ensure it is in line with workload
* Control operational overhead spends such as consumables, maintenance and tooling in your area of influence
* Forecast output and input including (but not limited to) 3 monthly projections with weekly output breakdown
* Map out future growth and financials required to achieve it
* Full accountability for workshop financial performance, including margin, labour recovery, WIP, and overheads.
Qualifications & Skills
* Proven experience managing a medium sized team of engineers
* Hands on experience with a range of engine repair and overhaul
* Hands on experience with transmission repair and overhaul (where applicable)
