Role
Purpose:To provide information, advice and guidance on structured problem solving and the delivery of effective crime prevention initiatives; to support the achievement of force objectives to minimise crime, disorder and antisocial behaviour.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Provide direct support to crime reduction plan owners and Tactical Advisors, to guide and assist them in the application of Objective, Scanning, Assessment, Response and Evaluation (OSARA) and related problem-solving tools, to support the development and delivery of crime prevention initiatives.
2. Carry out research to assist plan owners in the scanning, analysis and research phases of OSARA, providing information in appropriate formats, to enable crime reduction plan owners to identify and prioritise issues, identify underlying causes, and to develop appropriate interventions.
3. Carry out research to assist in developing the most effective and efficient responses collating and assessing information on previous plans and evaluating the POP process.
4. Assist allocated plan owners with coordination of the delivery of agreed responses.
5. To update, maintain and provide data to quantify the benefits of crime reduction activities and inform force reporting on performance against its Key Performance Indicators in accordance with legislative and force requirements.
6. Represent the force at internal and external meetings, conferences and events to present and explain relevant crime prevention initiatives and to identify information from both internal and other organisations that may contribute to force effectiveness in preventing crime.
7. Deliver presentations and training within the force to raise awareness of problem solving tools, crime prevention processes and procedures, and lessons learned; to promote the adoption of best practices.
8. To keep up to date with information and intelligence relevant to crime prevention in support of community safety and crime prevention objectives and review current advice in circulation.
9. Liaise with colleagues within the force and beyond to share lessons learned and best practices using appropriate media and formats.
10. To promote and comply with North Wales Police Policies on Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety, both in the delivery of service and the treatment of others.
Prior Education and Experience:
11. NVQ level 4 or equivalent, including English and Maths
12. Thorough practical understanding of OSARA.
13. Knowledge and practical understanding of the National Crime Prevention Strategy.
14. Knowledge and practical understanding of the Crime and Disorder act .
15. Experience of administrative work in a team environment.
Skills:
16. Able to breakdown a straightforward problem into component parts and determine appropriate action.
17. Able to interpret and apply guidance to a specific activity.
18. Good written and oral communication skills, being able to set out logical arguments clearly, adapting language, form and message to meet the needs of different people / audiences.
19. Able to produce concise reports or other documents.
20. Able to work on own initiative, working under pressure to meet specific deadlines.
21. Able to work as part of a team and proactively develop effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders.
22. Skilled in the use of standard IT packages, systems and/or databases to fulfil role requirements.
23. Be able to attend work related training courses.
24. Able to review own performance objectively and to develop and follow an appropriate improvement plan.
