East West Railway Company (that’s us) was created by the Department for Transport (DfT) to oversee the delivery of East West Rail from construction through to wheels in motion, making sure the railway comes together in the right way.
Role Summary:
EWR are looking to appoint a Senior Digital Engineering Manager in our Milton Keynes office to manage our Digital Engineering team.
As the Senior Digital Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of digital technologies and processes across our programme. Your role will encompass managing the EWR Common Data Environment, BIM, Geospatial analysis, Digital Twin, and simulation activities, ensuring seamless integration and optimisation throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams both within EWR and our partner organisations, to drive innovation and excellence in digital engineering practices within the UK rail industry whilst maintaining strategic alignment with Network Rail digital strategies and initiatives.
You will be part of our Systems & Digital Engineering professional home responsible for implementing our Systems & Digital Engineering Strategy and improved technical ways of working within EWR Co’s Engineering Community and the EWR Co programme.

Key Responsibilities
* Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for digital engineering initiatives aligned with organizational goals and industry best practices.
* Project Oversight: Provide leadership and guidance on the application of BIM, Geospatial analysis, Digital Twin, and simulation techniques across our programme, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and programme requirements.
* Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of digital engineers, BIM specialists, and geospatial specialists, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including Network Rail, partner organisations, and regulatory authorities to drive the adoption of digital engineering solutions and facilitate knowledge exchange. Work alongside the EWR Co Senior IT Manager to support the capability maturity of our Information Assets including the EWR Co Common Data Environment, GIS, Asset Information Management systems and other engineering applications.
* Technology Evaluation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in digital engineering, conducting research and evaluation to identify opportunities for enhancement and optimisation where appropriate to EWR Outcomes.
* Quality Assurance: Establish quality control processes and standards to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of all digital engineering deliverables and data.
* Training and Development: Develop the Digital Engineering Competency Framework and associated training programs and resources to upskill staff on digital engineering tools, methodologies, and workflows, promoting a culture of learning and development.
* Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges associated with digital engineering activities and develop mitigation strategies to minimise programme disruptions and ensure successful attainment of EWR outcomes.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Bachelor's or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Geomatics, or a related field.
* Proven experience in digital engineering on large scale projects, with a focus on BIM, Geospatial analysis, Digital Twin, and simulations within the rail industry.
* Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
* In-depth knowledge of relevant software tools and platforms (e.g., Autodesk Revit, Bentley ProjectWise & MicroStation, AIMS and GIS software) and simulation packages.
* Familiarity with industry standards and regulations governing digital engineering practices in the rail sector (e.g., PAS 1192 series, ISO 19650, etc.).
