About the Role
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to take ownership of a dedicated client portfolio within a small, dynamic team. The role offers variety, autonomy, and the chance to build meaningful client relationships while managing comprehensive end-to-end payroll processes. You'll be working with modern payroll systems and have the flexibility to manage your workload effectively.
Payroll Officer Responsibilities
Establishing new client accounts and configuring payroll systems using BrightPay or Xero software
Processing various payroll frequencies including weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly, and monthly cycles
Managing employee lifecycle changes including new starters, leavers, and maintaining accurate personnel records
Calculating and processing statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, and holiday entitlements
Resolving payroll inquiries and maintaining regular communication with clients and HMRC
Administering pension schemes including auto-enrolment processes, monthly submissions, and employee correspondence
Processing CIS returns including CIS deduction management
Payroll Officer Requirements
Minimum 2 years comprehensive payroll processing experience with payroll bureau background preferred
Proficiency in end-to-end payroll administration and confident client relationship management
Strong technical abilities and solid educational foundation
Experience with BrightPay and Xero payroll systems advantageous
Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

Competitive salary between £27,000 - £28,000
Flexible start and finish times within 37.5 hour working week
