Overview
We are currently recruiting Trainee Ambulance Care Assistants (ACA) across the East Region in Tayside, Fife, Forth Valley, Lothian and Borders.
Responsibilities
As an ACA you will deliver high quality care and safe transportation for non‑emergency patients from their homes to hospital and clinic appointments, inter‑hospital transfers and discharge from hospital. You may be asked to support the A&E Service by transporting suitable patients who are referred on the day by GPs to assessment units, and underpin the A&E Service during major incidents or accidents.
You will be expected to work an average of 36 hours per week, which includes weekend, evening and public holiday working. Part‑time applicants will also be considered.
Qualifications
You must have achieved passes in Standard Grade/‘O’ grade/Nat 4 or equivalent in both English and Maths and possess a full driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points. You also need to hold a category C1 licence at least six weeks before your start date; if you already have category C1 it will be given preference. Candidates without C1 may be placed in a holding pool for future course dates if successful.
Training and Salary
Successful applicants will be enrolled in our bespoke clinical training programme and become an employee of the Scottish Ambulance Service from the date of commencement. The training includes a recognised driving module and leads to a Level 3 Certificate in Ambulance Patient Care – Non‑Urgent Care Service. After completing the training you will be posted to an Ambulance Station where qualified staff will mentor you and you will receive ongoing learning support from the Education Team.
We offer a training salary of £23,557 pro rata per annum, rising to £29,103 pro rata upon successful completion of the training programme. This will further increase to £31,409 with increments in line with Agenda for Change.
