University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity within the Emergency Care Therapy Team (ECTT). We are seeking a motivated, forward-thinking, and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our friendly, multi-professional team. The role involves managing a specialized clinical caseload and contributing to the development of our well-established therapy service alongside senior staff.
The team works across various settings including the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Units, Short Stay Ward, Frailty Same Day Emergency Care, and conducts Community Outreach visits. We focus on early assessment, providing alternatives to admission, and supporting Frailty care pathways, working closely with community and hospital colleagues.

The successful candidate will undertake a specialist OT role, delivering assessments and interventions with a focus on early involvement, discharge planning, and admission avoidance, including promoting Virtual Wards. Responsibilities include equipment and care recommendations, cognitive assessments, and supporting staff and student training. Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential to work effectively with diverse patient groups, hospital teams, and community services. Flexibility to work split shifts and participate in the weekend/bank holiday rota supporting a 7-day service is required.
The team comprises Band 7 PTs/OTs (Team Leads), Band 6 & 5 PTs/OTs, Assistant Practitioners, admin staff, and a Band 8a clinical lead. The post holder will support OT Team Leads in coordinating daily operations, ensuring seven-day coverage, supervising staff, and contributing to service development. The role involves working with patients with complex needs and developing clinical excellence in emergency care. The post holder is professionally and legally accountable for their practice, working with minimal supervision.
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, Priority, and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon, with relevant recent experience as per the Person Specification.
